Tips and ideas on how to be classy, creative, and fun in the classroom. |
This idea won third place in our giveaway. It was submitted by Hannah T. from New South Wales, Australia.
I brought in a range of different artefacts that were used in the past including an old soft drink bottle, a glass jelly crystals bottle, a pocket watch, an inkwell and a old style magnifying glass. The children then were giving a couple of artefacts and worked in small groups to try and figure out what they were and what they had been used for. It generated some really interesting discussion and children were able to draw connections to their own lives. The children then reported back to the glass on what they believed the artefact to be and compared it to what we use today.
A great way to build onto this idea is to have the children search around their homes, grandparent’s homes, Goodwill, etc. to bring in artefacts of their own and present them to the class.
