Tips and ideas on how to be classy, creative, and fun in the classroom. |
Class pets can be difficult to handle. As I posted before here, a great alternative to a live animal is a stuffed toy or, even more fun, a pet rock! Instruct the students to search at recess for a large rock (bring in an example to show them a good size). Or, if you have time, go exploring outside during class in search of rocks. Then, allow the students to decorate their rocks with Googley Eyes, yarn for hair, glitter, paint, and any other materials you may have. Have the students name their rock and write a short description of him or her. Include a picture of all of the students’ rocks with their descriptions to display in the classroom or in the hallway! Pet rocks are great!!
