Tips and ideas on how to be classy, creative, and fun in the classroom. |
Use clipboards on the bulletin board to hang up student work. Simply change the title with each assignment and hang the work on the boards rather than switching the bulletin board each period. Or use the same title (such as writing in this one) to display writing work from the whole year.

Fits great with Bloom’s Taxonomy and ISTE Standards!
I recently discovered this website thanks to getting a message from Olly’s Tumblr. The only negative thing I can think about the show, crafts, and Olly himself is not finding it sooner!! I love the videos. They are extremely descriptive and entertaining. They are easy to understand to even the novice crafter can complete Olly’s zany ideas, and the kids simply love the silly humor. Check out Olly and Pop NOW!
End of the year bulletin board (for K5) I found on Pinterest. I love it!
Oh, muffins!
Here is an avatar to use. Let’s make her famous!
Oh my! How have I missed out on this for so long? Sorry I’m so late, but please Tumblr fix this travesty. I am simply obsessed with Oh Muffins! I want to be her when I grow up. Bring her back right now!
Anonymous asked: i love your background! where did you get it!?
Thank you! It is a Lilly Pulitzer desktop background that I downloaded for free from the blog Canadian Prep.
Anonymous asked: Hello! Your video is amazing! A few friends and I watched it on our prep today!! :) Do you have info on starting to implement these techniques in the classroom? And training on the different call words and motions for the kids? thank you so very much! Sabrina
Hi, Sabrina!
I’ve got so many questions about that video so I hope I can sum it all up in this one response! I do not know the teacher, where she teachers, or who she is. One of my friends, who is also in education, just showed it to me last week.
I do not have any formal research on this topic, therefore I can only speak from observation and experience. As far as implementing these techniques at this point in the year, I would not suggest it. The kids are already used to you and how your classroom is ran so any new techniques might confuse them and throw them off. For next year, I believe that in order to use the queues, call words, and motions it is important to introduce them right away. During the first few weeks of school just remind the students what is to be said/done when you give them a queue. With practice, the kiddos should catch on and be able to do it themselves when you give them a word. I think all of these would be really fun to try out in the classroom.
As far as the tally marks (this is from another question), my only guess is that those are used whenever the students have the “teach” time. They either receive a smile for doing well or a frown for being off topic, talking too loud, not participating, etc.
Hope this helps and best of luck to you always!

I recently taught a lesson on astronomy and constellations. The students were so interested in the stars that I did some research and found a great interactive constellation map. Since you can’t take the students out at night, this is the next best thing!
For my lesson we spent the morning making astronaut helmets out of paper plates (I’ll put a tutorial of this up later!). Then during planning, I covered all windows with dark sheets and turned off the lights. The students put on their helmets an we began our exploration of space!!
